date night

yes D & I managed a night on the town we started with a lovely Italian dinner at Vinny & Me. Had the calamari which in our experience is either done very well or very poorly there is no middle ground with the dish, luckily they do it very well there. I had some wonderful veal marsala and yes I know horrible for the calf but they taste so very yummy, D had a NY strip that melted in your mouth, had a nice bottle of wine it was a good meal sadly neither one of us could manage any tiramisu maybe next time.
We then met up with some friends and went to a local comedy club for a laugh or two and outrageously priced drinks. Managed to get home after midnight without turning into a pumpkin-or falling asleep, it's so sad getting old huh? Didn't things used to get started at midnight? It was so long ago I don't remember anymore...
And while an indulgent evening thanks to a dinning card we have no need to break the bank-dinner had a discount as did the comedy club tickets!

it's the snappy peppy

very clever marketing idea by Snappy Tomato Pizza we got a flyer the other day & evidently they will deliver to your boat. I am assuming while it's docked they don't have a delivery boat or maybe they do? And it's not like I have a boat or anything or have ever tried their pizza, one just opened close to the house maybe we'll have to give it a try this weekend.
If you didn't get the Mel Brooks reference you should go rent High Anxiety this weekend it's one of his best films!

random thursday

-just plain exhausted the past few days and the mere thought of blogging seemed more effort than I was willing to put out
-managed a twitter or two and plenty of goof off time on facebook, but that is about it
-work is busy which is a good thing
-school is rolling along only 3 classes left 2 of which are exams,
-laundry is still piled up around the house
-the house itself is in desperate need of a really good cleaning but that is not going to happen this weekend
-MIL has a birthday coming up so we will have to put together some sort of a dinner
-Oscar also upcoming birthday and yes the dog does share his birthday with MIL.
-D and I are going to get a date tonight tomorrow, we are still in discussions over restaurant choice
-perhaps even the cinema?

any pointers on raising cattle?

'cause I'm thinking this is something we need to be looking into in the not to distant future.
Cooked a roast in the crockpot for dinner tonight, a roast that normally would last for at least 2 meals and maybe a lunch or two... Not so much tonight, tonight it's gone.
C was hungry.

fun on the fourth weekend

and indeed the whole weekend. The past several years we have been up in CT for the 4th so this was a change for us. We went from having a plethora of parties to none to sort of a bunch again but landed with just the right amount of festivities!
Cookout on the 4th was great fun big thank you to the Douglas' for hosting! C & I lucked out on the ride home we caught some of the big fireworks show that had been rain delayed. Much oohing & aahing and the realization we are going to have to take him to see fireworks dare I say it maybe the dreaded Boomsday? I am not fond of crowds or sitting in traffic so we'll see about that one...
Saturday wound up hanging out not doing anything of note. BIL(JJ) came into town with his son our nephew Z so it was a boys drinking Scotch listening to music fest at our house. I escaped with my book and went to bed early.
Sunday was the crawfish boil at MIL's house- and it is actually my BIL's "show" it seems to be turning into an annual thing which is great! The Shrimp Dock is wonderful one stop shopping everything down to the spices is purchased there-they also provide the pot & gear to cook with.
This summer we did buy more corn and sausage next year we need more shrimp and we need to get started cooking earlier-remember kids a watched pot never boils!!!!
Cute trick to keep away the bugs put cloves into lemon slices and scatter around the table-it really works well. I'd like to take credit on that clever idea but I read it in a magazine or somewhere just this past week. Thanks to Jenn! I recreated her chocolate eclair cake and it was the hit of the dessert table! and so very easy to make!

running out of summertime

and we are running out of it fast! I just had a glance at the calendar and I am not sure where the time is going...
my class will be finished in just over 2 weeks then C & I head to CT for a little over a week and when we get back he has about 1 more week until he is back in school.
Better not blink it
ll be the holidays before we know it!

southern foods

growing up a Yankee there were certain culinary treats I was unaware of
-apple butter
-fried okra
-biscuits & gravy
-pinto beans & cornbread
-fried green tomatoes
-collared greens
-mac & cheese-the real deal not the boxed stuff
-fried okra-can you tell that is really what I am wanting right now?
